Towing with a Suburban 1500

I have just bought a new boat that weighs, with the trailer, 5600 pounds. I have 5.7L engine and the towing package with the 3:73 axle. It has 94,000 miles on the Suburban.

I live in Reno and I want to be able to go to Tahoe.

Any thoughts? Will my truck have any problems. Should I modify it in any way to make it better?

Thanks,
Gary

Re: Towing with a Suburban 1500

you might find the rear end to be a little sloppy pulling a trailer after 94k miles, is everything still stock? otherwise, you should be ok. if not, you might look into air bags or at least new shocks.

make sure the trailer has been serviced....good bearings properly greased, tires are inflated to spec, tongue weight of trailer is good. check your trailer wheels at each stop to see if the bearings are getting hot. bring a spare trailer tire, make sure you have a jack that will work on the trailer, grease gun, and an extra hub assembly might come in handy, though hopefully not.

good luck and take it slow

i have on '03 with 3.73 and only 10k miles, i also trailer a boat that comes in around 5k lbs depending on gear and gas. at highway speeds, the rear end bounces around a little bit over bumps. if i towed long distances more often, i'd have air bags installed to bring that under control better and make the ride smoother.

around town though, it tows the boat just fine.
