My brother bought a 95 Accord LX for a very very good price but it is an automatic and it is very slow. How much is it to switch to a 5 speed and how complicated is it? He has put an intake, lights, etc on it but wants a 5 speed.

your brother obviously isn't very smart.....if he wanted a 5-speed he should have bought a 5-speed....i mean damn....why the hell would you buy a car only to completely f*** it up like that...tell him i said he should have bought a manual....what a dumb idea...

Gosh, what a constructive reply!

You will need to acquire all the parts necessary for the manual conversion, even minutiae like new pedals. I'm sure someone else can post a full list. Around here, labour for the operation costs around $1200 CDN.

Or just go to www.levelten.com and get the kit for it that will make it a lot stronger... I wish 10000000 times that my wifes car was a 5 speed.. but all I can do is wait on the money for that kit and take it and have it installed... I have heard that if you do that kit and the torque converter it is actually better than the 5 speed.... And if you really want to spend the money get the trans controller that makes the trans push button!! then you can control how hard you want it to shift, you can lock the converter, all kinds of stuff but by the time you do all that you could swap it to a 5 speed!!! I would like the auto better though if I had all that!!! :)

I got a price on switching from auto to manual and a full engine swap, from the Honda Dealership near me. they said it would be about $1400 in labor if i supplied all the parts for it. so its not that bad. but im getting the new engine, and the trans swap all done for free from my friend who works at avellino's. So it all depends on where you go and all. i personally would rather have it professionally done because screwing around with that is a really big deal and you could totally destroy your car if you do something wrong

If you can work on cars yourself, you can do it for fairly cheap. If not, don't even bother. I did the swap on my 3rd gen and it's pretty straight forward but here's a quick break down of parts you'll probably need-tranny, shifter and linkage, boot (the fake leather thing that covers the shifter), 5 speed ECU, pivot bolt for the brake and clutch pedal, brake and clutch pedal, clutch pedal stopper, clutch cable, flywheel and new clutch, maybe the tranny mount, starter, and axles. Some wiring will probably need to be done like the reverse lights (5 speeds have a switch in the tranny where as the autos have the switch on the shifter), and disabling the switch on the auto that only allows the car to start in P or N.
