Timing Belt

I have a 2001 Corolla S, i'm looking to get the timing belt changed on it, can someone please tell me if it has a belt or a chain.

Thanks

The 2001 Toyota Corolla S uses a timing chain and not a belt. It's a bit noisier, but a lot more durable. No scheduled replacement interval for the chain.

I have the exact same vehicle. Hope this helps.

Timing Chain Replacement

In the 2001 Corolla S Scheduled Maintenance Guide, which has service intervals up to 120,000 miles, there is no scheduled replacement for the timing chain. The timing chain can easily last the lifetime of the vehicle and does not need to be replaced at 60,000 mile intervals like timing belts which are more susceptible to deterioration because of their composition.

I know quite a few Corolla owners that have in excess of 120,000-200,000 miles on their vehicles without ever having to replace the timing chain. So... I would not lose any sleep over this unless you are actually having problems with the timing.

BTW, I haven't replaced the timing chain on my Corolla and I'm guessing that I won't ever have to.

Hope this helps.
