Question 94 Camry Starting Problems

I Have a '94 Camry 4cyl. Went one morning to start & it wouldn't. Jumped it ok, but ran "rough"; lights on dash blinked & RPM guage "ticked". Took it to local Auto Zone - They said battery was ok, but a low charge. Said the Alternator was bad (which is what I thought), so I bought it and installed at home. After installation, same problem, I have to jump it, then runs "rough". I can always jump-start it. Took back to Auto Zone & had them test the new alternator, the battery again & the starter (everything I knew to check). They said everything tested fine & had no ideas for me. Now it's gotten to the point where it dies as I drive it (so now it's parked). Someone recently suggested that it might be the inline ignition fuse. Does that sound right & if so, How do I identify it?

Thanks
Will Isaac

I would bring it to a mechanic and have him scope the ignition. Could be alot of things. You need a technical diagnosis. I doubt it is a fuse. Fuses normally just shut things down by blowing, not screwing things up.

Could be your timing belt jumped, could be a bad distributor/coil/igniter, could be just a bad wire in the ignition system. The list is long.

Try checking the battery cables. I replaced the battery cables for my Sundance Duster, it did the same thing and I was almost going to buy an alternator.

Re: 94 Camry Starting Problems

Check the Capacitor inside the distributor, hooks to the (-) negative side of the ign. coil.... It gets a lot oh engine heat & can short out off & on & do a complete short & take out your 30 amp AM2 fuse under the hood as mine did... Bob
