92 accord driveshaft replacement

I need to replace the right driveshaft on one of my '92's. I have replaced driveshafts on other vehicles, but never on an Accord. I'm looking for the easiest procedure with the fewest disconnects and joint separations. Can someone walk me through it?

Thanks

Man, it's not an easy job. But since you have experience on other vehicles, I believe the procedure is generally the same. What I suggest is to borrow a Chilton manual as your reference. Below is just what I remembered roughly, may not be accurate.

Special tools/parts you need:
Torque wrench, spindle nut socket, ball joint separater, lock pins, it's better you have a power tool, save you a lot of time and energy.

1. Loose the spindle nut befoer you take off the wheel. The nut is big, you need a big socket. If your area has AutoZone, you can borrow one from the store without buying it. The first time I did it, I used a 1/2" breakbar with a 6' steel pipe and used by body weight to break it loose. Later times, I used impact wrench, piece of cake. Remember to raise the deformed area on the nut first.

2. Take off the wheel.

3. remove the brake system (caliper, pads, rotor, etc.).

4. Remove the castle nut for the lower control arm.

5. use a ball joint separator to separate the arm and steering knuckle. This could be very hard.

6. Now you can swing the steering knuckle outward while you push the drive shaft into it and retract the shaft from inside of the knuckle, you need to support it.

7. use a pry bar to pry out the inner end of the drive shaft and now you can remove the whole shaft.

8. install is about the reverse. Make sure you torque the bolts/nuts to the spec. and use new lock pins for the castle nut and dent the new spindle nut.

Still, you should read the repair or service manual couple times so you have a pretty good picture what needs to be done before you begin.

Take you time, and good luck.
