2000 Intrepid 2.7 swap to 3.2?Pete555 06-12-2004, 02:27 PM I have a 2000 Intrepid with a 2.7 bad engine. Can I replace it with a 3.2? Will it bolt up to the transmissom? Is it a rip out and replace if not what kind a modifacations will I have to do? theFREAKnasty82 07-13-2004, 10:00 PM There is a lot of modifications that will need to be done to replace the 2.7 with a 3.2. First, you'll have to change out your motor mounts. The original mounts for the 2.7 are different from the 3.2. Next, you'll have to reprogram the PCM (powertrain control module) to recognize the new engine and all the necessary operating parameters. Next is the transmission. The bolt holes for a 2.7 and a 3.2 are slightly different and will not directly mate up. Also, you'll have to get new A/C hoses because the mounting bracket for 2.7 and 3.2 is different. In addition, the power steering pump and hoses will need to be repositioned because the pump is mounted lower on the vehicle. To make a long story short, it is not worth all the added effort just to "swap" engines with todays newer cars. If you are impressed with the performance of the 3.2/3.5L V6 engine, get an Intrepid ES or R/T (now SXT) to get that rich, crisp performance. Pete555 08-03-2004, 01:05 PM Thank you for the info. I almost gave up hope. stevew106 09-10-2004, 04:39 PM I have switched out my 2.7 with a 3.2 and there is not much to it. The transmission bolted up just fine and I was told by the dealer they would bolt up just fine. I needed to change the exhaust but that was simple and the power steering and the motor mounts, the normal stuff. It is really pretty simple. I spent about $1400.00 and the car runs great. Alot better than buying a whole new car. pistonsforever 09-12-2004, 07:26 PM i currently have an extra 3.2 and most of the items needed for the conversion. i am currently in the process of doing the same and purchased an engine with 45,000 mi. and then a friend turned me on to another deal and now i have this extra engine and componts. contact me at rsted@alpena.cc.mi.us i can probably help u rich TnBeeman 09-10-2009, 12:54 PM They Rich do you still have the engine and parts?
