I tried to replace the brake rotors but found they seemed to be frozen. I had the calipher off and thought it would just slide off. Any tips would help. Thanks,Terry.

Try tapping opposite back sides of the rotor simultaneously with two plastic mallets or equivalent. Don't use a steel hammer or anything that might damage the surface. A couple of short 2x4s might work.

tshore,

If Brian's suggestion doesn't work, there are 2 threaded holes in your rotor if it's OEM, and also in most aftermarket rotors near the center hub. Thread 2 long bolts of the proper mating thread into these 2 holes and with a wrench alternate tightening each bolt a little at a time. The threaded holes are there for you to lever the rotor off. It can easily rust to the hub and stick like it has been welded. Brian's method is actually a bit quicker, if it works, so try his method first.

Brian and tshore,

I used to have an 86 Camry and I think they do have the threaded holes, but it's been a few years since I worked on the brakes on that car so I may be wrong.

tshore,

Any luck in removing the rotors and did they have the threaded holes?

Mike

Thanks for replying guys but I still haven't had the chance to try again.I'll try within a week and let you know if it has (pilot holes) or not. The initial problem was a shaking in the steering wheel and then I discovered the inner thread on the front right wheel was shot. Two new tires took care of that but I know the rotors have to be replaced since these are the origional ones and the car has 121k on it. I'll let you know what happens.
