Angry My Jetta Dies while I am driving

This is the second time this has happend. I have a 1997 Jetta GT Manual with 72000 Miles. The repair shop said they couldnt find anything worng last time except oil in the air intake or something like that. I will be driving fine and then it will start to sputter. It will start reving up and down below 1000 and then will just stall. It will not turn back over and if it does it will just die again. Oh my horn wont work while this is happening but my radio does. I dont know much about cars so please keep advice simple. It happens in all weather and I just had a checkup about 1000 Miles ago...Help..Why does my car just die on me?

Hey I know this may sound rude but don't take it the wrong way, if it starts sputtering and the radio dies right before it goes out make sure your not low on gas when it happens. When driving my old car, I had problems trying to make the most out of the gas I had and pushed it too low, and when you start to run outta gas, the car sputters, and the radio will die out. If you've got enough gas maybe its just not making it to the engine... just a suggestion good luck.

My radio does not die...My horn will not work but my radio will. I had just filled up so it is defenitly not low gas!

bad fuel pump not sending enough pressure? leaking gas cap? if the tank is presurized properly car won't run right... clogged fuel filter? (if you constantly let your car get below an eighth tank you will start to pick up the settlement in the tank and it will clog the filter or pump.) bad ignition coil or wiring... if the horn isn't working and the car is having sputtering problems, there could be a short in the steering column?

Re: My Jetta Dies while I am driving

'97's are prone to ignition switch failure. Try jiggling the key, turning towards start position and back to run to see if this affects it when it tries to die.
