Question keyless entry battery

My remote only works sometimes I think the battery maybe going out. Does anyone know how to or where I can find info on changing the battery? I can't figure out how to even open the thing. Jetta 2001

I will try the parts place, I was trying to avoid having to pay the high fees at the dealer if it was something I could do myself. Thanks for the help.

Re: keyless entry battery

You should be able to get the battery at any local walmart for quite a bit cheaper.

Re: keyless entry battery

I just changed the batteries in my key. If you have a special battery store, Like BATTERIES PLUS, they will have them for around 5 bucks. Slide the key apart, it opens up in the middle. Then the side that does not have the key on it opens down the middle. When you change the batts. it may not work right away, but after a couple of hours of driving around and stuff, it started working out of the blue. Hope it helps.
