the engine temperature light comes on even thought the car temp is fine and sometimes the display lights go out and the rev counter dies. any ideas? seems intermittent

If the light flashes it means the coolant level is low, it can sometimes go out when hot as the fluid expands. As for the display & tach quitting, I've had alot of problems with the connector to the instrument cluster failing.
