straight pipe exhaust

hey well i was wondering what straight pipe exhaust(with catalytic converter, no resonator, no mufflers) would sound like on my 96 monte carlo ls...i have 2 dual monza mufflers with 4 inch tips right how..it gives the car a fairly low rumble..but not too loud..id like my car a little louder and aggressive sounding still? is there any added performance to making it straight pipe or any better gas mileage? does any one have straight pipe on their monte or heard any other v6 straight pipe cars...THANKS

Re: straight pipe exhaust

Its a matter of personal taste, but getting a V6 to sound good is very difficult. From what you describe, you have a good sound that you like now so I'd stick with it. There are few things in this world that I hate more than the blat of an open exhaust V6, especially the GM V6s and how they make kind of a burble sound. Just my opinion, but I think you'll hate it. It will make it sound loud and wimpy

My friend had a 3.1 in a Cavalier. His tailpipe came off AFTER the muffler and it sounded crappy. There was a trend for a while of putting straight pipes on trucks with the 4.3 V6 and they just sounded like junk.

Just personal opinion, but I think you'll hate it.
