A/C odor

Anyone have any suggestion for this problem; lately, for over a week, I start my expedition and turn on the A/C, it smells moldy or mildew then goes away after a few seconds. Now the A/C alomst smells like piss, and it takes a long time go away. Sometimes it comes back after running it for a while.

What is the cuase of this, and what can I dot about it?

What part of the country do you live in?

I have read in previous threads that mold/mildew build up when not in use.

I live in Florida so I use AC year round. But after vacation or a long weekend of no driving I have the same smell.

The smell is lessened if you leave the control switched to panel as apposed to off or AC so that air is circulating through out the system when the car is parked.

I live in Maryland, and park a few spaces down from a tree. When I park I turn of the a/c. I will try leaving it open and see what happens, Thanks.

I think maybe replaced a filter would do the trick, now I have to dig up a manual for the truck!

Still no manual to truck, but advise about leaving vent on works great. However, I left my truck parked for about a week or so with the vent left off. Got in it and turned on the air. Smelled like a wet rag that was not aired out. What the hell could be causing something like that to stink so much. Could the sweat from the condendsor be causing this problem....Guess I`ll go down to the dealership and see if something like this is covered under my B to B warrant, id not I`ll just get bent over like everyone else.

Angry A/C Odor

Hey Guys
I have a 99 Eddie Bauer, and I have the same problem when I first start the truck up, the smell from the A/C is awful, it smells like a cat pissed on the truck or something, its horrible.
Also my exped isn't draining the condensation like it suppossed to, the rear air is, cuz i see it draining back underneath the drivers side rear wheel well, but the main a/c isnt draining, i am wondering if thats the reason for the smell, how do i take car of the drain problem and the smell. Eww! HELP!
