Timing belt and water pump

Hello, I know this is priobably an easy question, but I just bought a 1990 Honda Accord with 60,000 miles on it. I was told by someone that I should have the water pump and timing belts replaced after so many miles. Should I do that now? Should I wait until about 70,000?

Thanks for any info
Ken

timing belt can last up to 90,000ml. but if you don't feel comfortable with waiting until 90K, you can replace it.

It's like Honda 99 said 90K is a good interval. Most mechanics will try to sell you the waterpump replacement because they're already in that area working. It's up to you as to what you can afford.

water pump adds very little to the cost of timing belt replacement as mentioned before... basically they drop it in for the cost of the pump.

i have seen timing belts last over 120,000 miles. best thing to do is inspect it if you know what to look for. if it's in good shape, call it good. if it's questionable, replace it.

Yup...its better to be safe then sorry.

It wouldn't be good for your timing belt to brake while your cruising down the freeway at 65 mph.

if you only have 60000 on your engine than i wouldnt worry too much about changing the timing belt yet...but i would do it with in at least the next 15000-20000. if you are scared about it and if you know how to check it your self than you can but if you have a mechanic do it you might as well change them both out because of the labor that they will charge you anyway.

ouch, my old accord snapped while going 25mph, luckily it was fixable and no other problems arose ran fine and strong, pure luck.
if you have the funds have it done, and you'll be set for a few years. And won't forget to do it and risk it snapping though if you want a h22 down the line

i had mine replacved at 115k and the dealer said it was in good shape. the only reason they changed it was because i needed a new water pump.
