which would be a better engine for my truck?
i got a 88 f150 2wd with a 302 that has 349,000 with no rebuilds.(shocks the hell outa me that it still runs!!!!!!!!!!!) and my sister who was the last owner of the f150 NEVER took care of it. for the 3 years she owned that truck she only poped the hood ONCE. and she put 100,000 miles on it within 1 year and said that it's normal yearly driving.
ANYWAYS....back to the subject. i'm looking to just pull the engine and trans out of it and put something newER in. but i can't decide if i want to go with another 302 or if i want the more powerful 351. doesn't the 302 have higher gas mileage than the 351?? or are they the same?
EDIT: how hard is it to pull out a V8 on a f series truck? and how hard is it to rebuild a 302 aswell as a auto trans?

Re: which would be a better engine for my truck?
The autotrans i would not attempt. That truck probably has a AOD or an AODE. I would not try to rebuild one of those. As for the motor, what do you do with the truck? If you just drive around, the 302 is a good motor for you. If you are planning to pull a lot, get either a 300 or a 351, they have the same amount of torque. They will all work with your trans. When you rebuild it, put a 4x4 cam in it and a little higher compression, somewhere about 9.5:1.

302 Motors are great High mile motors, we just replaced one in our 81' 4x4 they dont have as much power for pulling or hauling but seem to be dependable and have a lot of longevity in them we love the one we had before we replaced it and after
