digital instrument cluster issue!

Hi!

I am new to this forum, and am glad I found it. I first searched through pages and pages to see if I could find my answer.

My 1992 Blazer which has about 99,700 miles on it just lost the speedometer part of the digital display (completely black). Question #1) Will the rest of it ultimately go to black? #2) How hard is this replacement? #3) How expensive is this?

Suddenly my truck which knock on wood has never given me a problem from day one, required a brand new air conditioning system (over $1,000) new motor mounts and fan (over $500) and this new problem just is not in the budget!

Please, if someone could direct me to a webpage showing how to remove this dash, and also where I might find a replacement one?

Thank you in advance!

Robin

There's guy on ebay who repairs the digital dashboards. Where do you live? If you livew in the rust belt that may have some of the blame for the motor mounts and such. Generally, these trucks will need replaced at this mileage: alternator, water pump, gauge clusters for digital ones and perhaps fuel pumps as well. Those are the common problems.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. I live in Connecticut, although my truck has virtually no rust eating away at the body (constant washing) I guess I do live in the "rust belt" most older vehicles on the road do.

I ran a search online and found a place in Canada that does repairs, called Mr. Whizard. Has anyone heard anything about them? Or, my ex is pretty handy when it comes to auto repairs, are these expensive and easy to replace by the somewhat mechanically inclined?

I will try to find the guy on ebay as well.

Thanks so much!

The alternator and water pump are pretty easy jobs as far as repair and replacement. Any shadetree mechanic can handle those. Here is a link to ebay guy: http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ebaymotors/w...category=33678

Thumbs up Thanks!

Hi,

I really appreciate your help. This is great, the guy on eBay is in the same state that I am in. I have sent him an email, and am very excited about this. My mechanic said no problem either replacing the entire unit, or the mother board, so either way looks like I am set!

Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Hi!

I got the motherboard from the ebay seller and couldn't be more happy and satisfied! It works great. Thanks to all that replied.
