Resetting the SES light

I've got the "gas cap loose" (small leak detected - code 102) code on my '99 Tahoe... it's not, of course, but how can I reset the SES light for this problem??

Thanks

Bob

Re: Resetting the SES light

P0102 would be a MAF code not a EVAP system leak. An evap system leak would be a P04?? or P14??. If it is a P0102 check the MAF for obstructions and spray it down with some non-residue electrical contact cleaner. If you're sure its a small leak code, it could be a cracked line, bad fuel sending unit seal, bad evap canister, and the list goes on and on possibly including bad gas. Disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes will clear but the prefered method is with a scantool as the vehicle will not lose radio presets and other important information

The P0102 is a MAF code.
The P0442 is a EVAP small leak detected code.
On rare occasions this can be caused by a loose gas cap, most of the time this code is a result of some kind of EVAP system failure that will produce a leak such as a cracked EVAP line, leaking fuel tank seal or other EVAP componant.
Although resetting the light will cause the SES light to go out, you still have not addressed the cause of the problem, just the effect.
