1994 tracker 4x4 not shifting into overdrive

I have a 94 tracker with a 4 speed automatic transmittion. For some reason it will not shift into overdrive. Check engine light is on. Any ideas where to start. I just bought it and it was like that when I got it. It has 117000 miles on it. I have parked it till we find out what is wrong. I do not want to blow the engine. The vehicle is in very good condition other than this problem. Any info would be appreciated!

Maybe you are in 4WD Low, and overdrive is not used in it. Try it in 4WD High, and see if it shifts.

Cool Push my Button.

My 2000 Tracker has a little button on the side of the shifter that engages and disengages over drive. Yours may have the same button. If not, call a Suzuki or Chevrolet dealer that is familiar with Trackers and ask them if there is an overdrive switch somewhere else. While you are at it order an Owners Manual. The check engine light may or may not be related to your Overdrive question. Go to AutoZone and find out which Code is being set. They won't charge you anything.

TCC Solenoid

This solenoid is located on the bottom of the trans valve body and is most likely your problem if 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears are working. Seen this problem on trackers a lot. Get the codes read for it and see if it has the TCC solenoid code listed, if it does, replace it.
