2000 Z71 Trailor Wiring Harness Prob

I have a 2000 Z71 with the towing package. Until recently the wiring harness worked well. Plug in the 7-4 adapter and everything just worked. Now I have no trailor lights, however I know the lights on the trailor are good - from hooking it to a friends 99 Chevy.

My questions are... How difficult is it to change from the 7 pin round adapter to the 4 pin standard plug adapter? Should I leave it in place and purchase the T-split wiring harness and can the two co-exist? and finally - could the adapter possibly be bad?

How do you know the trailer lites are OK?

Sounds like the trailer lites took out a truck fuse.

You can buy an already built adapter that plugs directly into the existing connector with a (Standard) wireing scheme.

Re: 2000 Z71 Trailor Wiring Harness Prob

check the under hood fuse box for 2 10A fuses marked(trl l lurn, trl r turn) and 1 15A marked (trl park) small mini fuse if standing at fender the two 10A are red on upper left corner side by side, the 15A is blue on left next to relay, right side or relay 1st one on top. if these fuses are good use test light and check wires at rear trailer plug, brown is parking, dark green is R turn, yellow is L turn, white is ground, turn on parking and hazards when testing for power, if everything checks out the plug connector and or adapter is corroded or faulty if the lights on the trailer work off another vehicle.

Thanks, that did it. The Left Turn + Park Lamps were both blown. I had checked under the dash (to the side) but did not realize there were additional small fuses under the hood. I thought that was for the bigger circuits such as Tranny, 4WD, etc.

Again, thanks. You saved me headaches and ended costing pennies to fix. Now to post my next ? as a new thread. :P
