Re: Blue Smoke Exhaust

Blue = Oil
White = Coolant
Black = Excess gas

Sometimes a black smoke might also have a white smoke and a combination of excess gas and coolant.

Re: Blue Smoke Exhaust

Valve seals is usually the culprit. Oil is getting past the valve oil seals and getting into the combustion chamber.
Valve seals needs to be replaced.

However, try using a thicker oil and see if it minimize burning oil.

Re: Blue Smoke Exhaust

You might also want to try a product called Restore. You mix it with your oil and it will stop most oil burning from either rings or valve seals. It will mix with any type of oil. You should also see some improvement in power as it is designed to fill in scratches in the cylinder walls that decrease compression. You can get at most auto retailers and they even sell it at WalMart. I have used it and it works very well.

Re: Blue Smoke Exhaust

My car burns a little oil netween oil changes, but with 140K, this is expected. I have been using Valvolines Max-Life Oil, and I'm pretty convinced that it works. It claims that it has special detergents in it to help recondition brittle seals in the engine, thus restoring their ability to seal. While there is going to be no miracle healing of your car, you might try this, and just see if it at least helps.

Re: Blue Smoke Exhaust

You might want to replace the PCV valve. If PCV valve fails, (stuck open) it will allow air/oil mixture to the intake unrestricted.
If PCV valve fails, (stuck closed), it will allow the air/oil mixture to force backwards into the breather hose and into the intake hose.
