Sweet!!
Yeah I really like the 850. I still think it may be the best prpduction car Volvo has released to date (although of course the S70 is just the evolved version, that in theory should only be better than the older 850). And the seats in it are awesome.
Can you post more info (including a picture) of this 850R?

I like these cars. They are practical, but can haul ass. To bad they're expensive. Please post a pic.
Not as good as a WRX Sportwagon, but nice.

my bro's got a 96 850r with exhaust and a chip and some cosmetic stuff like wheels, spoiler, etc. that thing's the fastest box on wheels. it's got 280hp at the flywheel. ran a 14.3 without the chip. not bad. wish it came in manual form that year however. thing's are one of the most solid cars on the road.

we used 2 have an 850 T5 estate, wasnt the R version, but it was fast enough. My dad is a car dealer so we always have new cars coming in and out, but the T5 was my favourite car out of any, and we have had lexus's, merc, beemers etc. wish we still had it. there arent many estates that can frighten sub 7/6 second sports cars out there.

tires for T5R
I've got a '95 T5R and was looking to put some new skins on it. I was online and bumped into a site that said it'll take 235/45/17's. I don't have any experience with tire upgrades. Anything other than clearance I should worry about? i.e. abs, computer,
Thanks,
Nick

Tyres
Tyres can be a problem subject, you just have to remember the ratio make up of the tyre 45 is the % of tyre width 205mm.
205/45/17 will have a side wall 92mm
235/45/17 will have a side wall 105.75mm
Thus making the circumforence of the wheel greater.
This will have the effect of making the speedo read slightly lower than the actual speed due to the car trveling further in one revolution of the the tyre than it is ment to according to the factory sitting. If you are prepared to live with that and remember this when you get pulled over for speeding when you clock says 70mph (that a bit of an over statement but you get the picture).
The other thing to consider is the width of the wheel the J value Rims are always marked with a stamp 7J x 17, 7 is the width and you need the to fit one of the range of tyre that is designed to fitt you rim width. Sorry i don't know the size for you rim but if you ask around a few garages they should know, it always best to check 3 or 4 to see if you are getting the right info.
Hope this helps

Your dads car sounds really cool. I myself have a 1995 Volvo 850, but unfourtunatly it isn't turbo. I was planning on selling it and buying an 850R or possibly a S40 with a turbo.
I would like to performance mods to either one that I get.
PERFORMANCE MODS
1. Cold air Intake
2. Exhaust system
3. A new ECU chip
Also I would like to do exterior and interior mods as well.
Int/Exterior Mods
1. Body kit
2. Carbon Fiber dash kit
3. Spoiler if it doesn't have one
4. Rims and low profile tires
Do you guys have any insite on this? I have looked at many Volvo performance sites, and I have found a lot. Just want some feedback from someone. Thanks.

850 R
Hey I have a 1995 Volvo 850 sedan, but it isn't the T5 or T5-R, but anyways. I have done some performance mods to mine, and I am running 185 Horsepower at the moment. I plan to buy a chip and it should get it to around 200 Hp, and ideas on a good site other then IPD or EuroSportTuning that has chips for less money? Also I am looking for a cold air intake, but most of the places I have seen only have them for the Turbo models only. Do you guys have any ideas on where to buy one for a non turbo, and or what to make one out of. Ideas welcome. I am also doing a lot of other mods. Check out my site, for my car.

That is my website, check it out, and give me some feed back on my ideas, and what you guys may think are better ideas, or if you agree with me, thanks.

my 850t5r
i have just managed to purchase a 850t5r in uk.
Fully original Tom walkinshaw limited edition yellow. Never had so much fun with the car.Problem is i work away from home and now my girlfriend is driving around in it wrpping up impretza and evo's.And by the way it is faster than those cars but only above 60mph.
Jap cars good 0-60 but a 850 T5R will do 120mph in 3rd gear and kill every things in its sight.
ps dont try killing lotus carltons they make you look like your going backwards

I have a 1996 850 T-5R and was wondering what is the best company to buy from. Another question is about repairs. It has 85,000 miles. Is this bad for this version(turbo, engine, year, etc.)
