1997 2.2 cavalier 79,000 miles.Driving along and motor died.Getting fire to plugs, have good compression, turning over good, fuel pump is pumping(don't know pressure and don't know how to check),checked gas cap for tightness. Very little money so I don't want to replace parts other than whats needed. Please give me your best ideas. Thanks

The gauge is working o.k. I just put fuel in it and when I pulled the line to check the pump, plenty of fuel came out.

I have the same car and it happened to me about a month ago. We put a new fuel pump in ($350.00) and it ran okay for a couple of weeks. But the day before yesterday it happened again. I had it towed to a shop and they said that my engine computer was bad and they wanted $800.00 to put a new one in. I checked with a part store and the computer is $100.00, and all you do is unbolt the cover under the dash, unplug the old computer, and plug in the new one.
