Oil filter conversion question

I decided to replace the 2.8L V6 engine in my 88 S-10 pickup when the rear main seal went bad as well as a piston ring. I was able to get a lower mileage engine from a yard in Tennessee. The new(er) engine is from an 89 S-10 Blazer and the oil pan was deeper so I changed it over to the one from the old engine. My problem now is, the oil filter mounting on the newer engine has the filter facing to the side so you would have to get at it from the driver's side wheel well. The one on the old engine has the filter facing the rear and is relatively easy to get at from underneath the vehicle. I'd like to change the mountings around. A friend who is a mechanic told me I'd need a seal kit for this. Can anyone enlighten me as to what I'm going to need to make the switch?

Thanks,

Wander
