Finished the transaction last Friday. I now have a 1992 F250 with the 7.5L gas engine sitting in the driveway. It needs fresh oil and some new spark plugs (previous owner can't recall when they were changed, but his mechanic said they were due). So two questions:

1) What's the best oil for a 130K engine?
2) What spark plugs should I use, and what gap?

Also, if you all have a favorite technical manual for maintaining these trucks I'd appreciate it. I try to do as much of my own work as I can.

Depends on what you're gonna be using the truck for. Call your local dealership and ask one of the service advisors for advice on the oil part. I'm assuming that your vehicle's odometer is in miles and not kilometers? In which case generally a 'chigher mileage' blend such as what Castrol makes would be suitable, but i dunno if it's approved for a truck application.

Don't know about the spark plugs, but i hope this thing for the oil helps.

the plug gap should be like between .042 and.046, bosch are decent plug too

I would use 5w-30 oil, and a good filter. I use mystik JT-8 oil, and hastings filters, wix, purolator, and motorcraft are all great filters. For filters stay away from frams, pennzoil, and quakerstate oil filters. The frams have poor anti-drainback valves and allow the oil to drain from the gallies back into the pan creating a dry start at each start. All SL rated oil will do. I usually use JT-8, but otherwise mobil, valvoline, havoline, and shell.

My 95 F250 w/ 460 came stock with Platinum plugs. I replaced the plugs with Bosh P2 series plugs for like $3 each. Also I have 138k miles and I switched to Mobil One Synthetic and really like it. Get the weight that best suites you climate and driving needs. Been on synthetic oil now for 30k+/- miles. No leaks, no oil burn. Just my 2 cents

The Plugs come preset to the proper gap!
