I did many bolt ons to my 4.3 and the best one I would have to say was installing an electric fan and ditching the stock one.
If your one a budget find a used set of headers on ebay. You can find many parts for cheap there.
i got my Flowmasters for half the price that my local dealer quoted me.
After finishing my truck I would have to say the first 2 hop ups I would do is the electric fan and change your rear gear ratio. I dont know your tire size or what your running now so I cant recommend much.
Many people will put over $500 in bolt on hop ups on their ride when they could of just installed a set of gears for half that.

Re: 95 s10..what shud i do first?
i would go with a whole new exhaust, im not sure how places are where your from, but where im from, there are places that will make you a custom exhaust for under 200, then you can pick yourself up some new headers, but after that your probably not gonna have enough for an intake and i would also recomend doing that as one of your first options.if you dont get a whole new intake, atleast go with the k&n filter, it helps a decent amount.

sry for my lack of car knwoledge but what would fear ratios do on a manual car?
ok for headers what would be a good set of headers to buy for a good price? i dont know what are the good brands etc and the exhaust piping whats a good brand and price? and i kinda had my mind set on a flowmaster muffler just becasue of the sound they make kicks ass.

gears will do the same as they would in an automatic car. Greatly improve acceleration.
Many brands of headers out there. I found my Edelbrock T.E.S. system on ebay unused for over $100 less than new price.
A more free flowing exhaust will only give you more power at higher RPMs. I installed a set of headers, Y pipe to a high flow CAT and then 2.5" pipe to a Flowmaster 40 series. I then installed a turn down after the muffler which makes it sound more like power instead of big ratty sounding chrome tips. But my point is that by reducing back pressure I lost some mid range power. But on the highway it was like a V8. And after asking around this seems to be typical. But after a gear change it was no problem at mid level.

Actually if he has a lot of other things planned to do besides exhaust and intake, computer programming should be the last thing to do. He can get the chip made utilizing all of what's he installed and optimize performance.

Re: 95 s10..what shud i do first?
dude if u have 500 to your name you are wastin money on headers top dogg seems to stand by his electric fan so i might try that myself if he will tell me where he got it . go with an intake u can get for 130 easy, check out a site called aero turbine for that muffler screw a flowmaster , gear is good but i bet you got a 342 or a 373 which is pretty hard to beat all round, you buy headers pay to get em on and your 500 is long gone, and you still wont see anything but the tailights of my ss, intake,no pulleys a good muffler and save your money for a charger,in the meantime bump up your timing and thats the best difference youll see, i am on my second s10 both 4.3's

Cant go wrong with a Flowmaster. Proven time and time again.
Numerically higher gear ratio will improve acceleration.
If you find headers install them yourself. This is why its a good idea to get a set with a Y pipe.
Find an electric fan anywhere. Go with a good name like Flexalite,SPL,Derale,Zirgo, Be Cool, etc.
Headers have always been a good way to go for me and I am sure many will agree.
If your just looking for simple bolt ons then headers or gears might be a little much depending on your mechanical abilities.
Start with little things since you just got your truck. K&N intake, fan, upgrade your ignition, etc.... See what you like.
If you really want advice I would say get your truck to a dependable level and then start working on that V8. You can get a nice 350 RTR practically anywhere. Its a simple swap especially if you want to remain a daily driver. Watch your local newspaper for people parting out V8 cars. Thats the best bet.

Re: 95 s10..what shud i do first?
flowmasters arent bad if you want the same sound as 90% of the other cars in america,be individual its your truck check this aeroturbine website i bet you wont want flows anymore a higher gear also drinks that 2 dollar a gallon gas unless your truck is missing an ignition will do nothing but make your truck fire hotter, who wants hotter, also for reference bosch platinum 4s are for german cars use only delco plugs they are designed to compliment your truck so dont listen to auto zone you will not find any bolt ons that will make a significant differenc in your truck., they just dont exist so yes v8 or charge that joker up, that is your only hope

Re: 95 s10..what shud i do first?
pulleys will give you another .001 in the 1/4 while also draining your battery , stressing your alternator and making other expensive parts work harder i have flows on my truck and i bet they sound about identical

U never really stated your style or what your looking to get out of the truck. A previous reply by some newbie said unless you did what he said the you would see his tail lights.
$500? Might as well start wth the basic K&N air intake kit.
Go to ebay and see what you can find for your truck that you might be interested in. Yopu will save money there.
$500? 2WD? How about a lift kit? 3" body lift kit is under $100 and the get a set of 30" or 31" Yokohama Geolander AT+II tires that wil fit stock wheels. An awsome truck tire for less money. About $100 each. Get better wheels later or find a set of wheels and tires used that you will like.
Yeah yeah some say body lifts suck but he is asking for opinions
U can get a 2" suspension lift from Rough Country with shocks for around $300.

94sser You seem to like to disagree with OPINIONS. But once I read that you couldnt even adjust your timing I think you lost your credability. Sorry dude your ego seems to be getting the best of you.
