INOP message after 7 tries for radio lockout

I've read recent posts about the radio lockouts. I kept trying to put in random codes but unfortunately none of them work. Now I have the INOP message displayed. The manual says that I have to wait an hour with the ignition turned on before I can retry again. Is that true? Has anyone ever had this happen to them. Also, I've seen where others have posted to get your code for a fee. I also saw where someone posted that if you press 1 & 4 and write down the 3 digit number, press the am & fm button and write the 3 digit number, and call a 800 number they would give you your specified code to unlock your radio for free/no charge. Does that work? Any help you can offer would be great. I'm not trying to pay a dealer money for something that I can do myself.

Thanks,
jcassandra00

I was the one who posted the "press 1 & 4 buttons" fix. Follow these steps and your problem will be solved. Others I have given it to have emailed me back saying it worked. Try it. Let me know how it goes. The only thing that concerns me is that you tried a lot of random codes and the radio locked you out. I've heard once you put in too many bad codes, you must go to the dealer to clear the radio "inop" message.

Thank you so much! It really worked. I thought I was going to go crazy if I had to drive in silence another day. Actually it's interesting, over the weekend I had received the "Err message" when trying to play a CD, well now it's gone. My CD player is back to normal now. Again, thank you very very much! You're a life saver! :) :)
