Unhappy cid sensor?

i was told by the dealership i need a new cylinder identification sensor in my 94 exploder. it starts hard and the check engine light stays on. but is this the cam sensor or the crank sensor? its got the pushrod 4.0 v-6. i found the crank sensor but cannot find the cam sensor, the book says its on top the manifold in the back. did i over look it? any help would be great.

can this cam sensor be tested? a new ones $450.00!!
