My temp. guage rises almost to the red area while at stops. I have addressed this to the dealership since I bought the vehicle in '98. They told me "as long as it doesn't go INTO the red, your OK". If I turn on the A/C, and/or start moving again, it goes back down to the normal location on the guage. Is there some type of fix for this?? Thermostat or cmptr update?? Thanks

Mine does it too, I think that the fans don't kick on unless the A/C is on....Mine has done it since the day i bought it. Another flawed GM design!

Under normal driving conditions, meaning with air flowing through the radiator, the thermostat will keep the engine temp between 185 and 200 F. If sitting still, the temp will rise to above 220 before the fans kick in. The guage has a wide sweep area for the normal temps, so 220 will read rather high on the guage.
GM put the red where it is for a reason. We can't think the guage should be like the old fashioned ones that read exactly with numbers. In fact, you should only have two numbers on your guage, at the top and bottom.
If you do go into the red, which isn't likely, then there is an obvious problem which should be addressed.
The fans automatically come on with the AC to keep the condensor cool.

See how match fun I hade and I still have it.
I will give you advise - just drive it like I do ,otherwise what we can do about it.If I come up with something I will update it in my post.
