custom carpet?

Has anybody tried to cut a carpet from scratch to fit their car? I was looking at custom fitted carpets and they're like 130 bones! Way too much for me... How hard would it be to cut out your own and put it in? Thanks for the advice..

Re: custom carpet?

Hard. And its going to look fucked up.

I've seen it done a few too many times and it always looks like crap. There are just too many bends in the interior and if the carpets not moulded they look all messed up in the corners and on the bends.

I personally would never consider it, I think no carpet at all looks better than flat carpet that someone tried to fit in.

Re: custom carpet?

try dying it. Alot easier too because I just got new carpet and you gotta fit it right or it's crappy, Go to an Oreily or auto zone and order SEM paint. It has a flexing agent and sticks to carpet awsome.

Custom carpet isnt that bad if you take your time, and you wear a respirator because the smells are horrible for the compound you use, and you have to take everything out of the car, and you have to work in a hot cramped space. I HATE working in a hot cramped up space. if you dont use the compound and just lay it, its gonna look like crap. My friends dad does commercial carpeting and stuff, he used to do auto carpet at a time, then he stopped because it was wayyyy too much work and he hated it.

Re: custom carpet?

Yeah, I wanna see some pictures too! I'd really like to do it the "hard cheap way" but I don't want to do it if it's not gonna look any better than it does now....
