3000ways 05-14-2004, 03:04 PM Your broke and you barely make ends meet, but one day luck is on your side. You check your lotto ticket and guess what you just won $40,000. So you always had dreams of owning a fast car, and you decide f*ck it I’m getting me a fast car. You decide that it must be from an Japanese manufacturer, can not be older than 1998, and it must be fast. So you think of some cars to buy and your list comes down to 10 cars that you cost under $40,000. Here is your list- 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI ($31,200) 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX ($24,600) 1998 Toyota Supra Turbo ($32,200) 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR ($33,000) 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution ($28,900) 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 ($23,700) 2004 Nissan 350Z Track ($34,200) 2004 Mazda RX-8 ($26,700) 2004 Honda S2000 ($32,800) 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe ($32,500) (prices are blue book and can be more or less) Now you decide to break these cars down to find out what which car can provide you with most of what you want (Remember you only have $40,000 to spend on car and what is left would go to mods)- Stock Power Tuning Potential Price Styling All Around Performance Livability So which is the best choice, which of these cars would fulfill most of these needs, which of these cars is the best all around buy? When measuring a car, especially when compared with others, all of this and perhaps other factors should be taken into account. Joseph1082 05-14-2004, 04:35 PM I'd have to go with the biggest Muscle on the list and take the Supra. youngvr4 05-14-2004, 04:55 PM 99 vr4 baby, just as much muscle! pre98zetec 05-14-2004, 06:34 PM STi Polygon 05-14-2004, 06:35 PM No question, the best car on the list is the Evo MR. 3000ways 05-14-2004, 08:45 PM Shortened it, perhaps alittle to long of a post Jimster 05-14-2004, 10:57 PM Infiniti G35 Coupe. Jay! 05-14-2004, 11:14 PM 1998 Subaru 22B + shipping. 3kgt8 05-14-2004, 11:36 PM Of Course 3000gt 99 Vr4!!!!!!!!!!! 3kgt8 05-14-2004, 11:38 PM Its funny how everyone goes with a 2005 car they havent even seen or driven. by the way EVos are fast cars but they sure are ugly as hell. Thepeug 05-15-2004, 12:40 AM Judging simply by whichever car would be the most fun to drive, S2000. 3000ways 05-15-2004, 12:50 AM Its funny how everyone goes with a 2005 car they havent even seen or driven. by the way EVos are fast cars but they sure are ugly as hell. EVOs aren't pretty, but to me they don't look that bad. Also you say how it's funny how everyone is going for the EVO MR when they haven't even seen or driven it. But probably most people who have voted haven't driven most cars on the list, have you driven all the cars on the list? I did drive the EVO and wow (and I owned a VR4 before), if the EVO MR is better and faster, double wow. As far as not seeing it, have you seen a base EVO before? Well then there you go that's how the EVO MR looks. freakonaleash1187 05-15-2004, 03:09 AM how could you put the vr4 on there without the 300zx tt? well, i would go with that because it might not go the fastest, but damn does it look sexy. but if i would choose of the list, i would go with its succesor the 350z. yes, i do love z cars. flylwsi 05-15-2004, 12:22 PM evo mr. pound for pound, and especially stock, it's better than anything on the list. 3000ways 05-15-2004, 12:57 PM how could you put the vr4 on there without the 300zx tt? well, i would go with that because it might not go the fastest, but damn does it look sexy. but if i would choose of the list, i would go with its succesor the 350z. yes, i do love z cars. I didn't go with the 300ZXTT because of it's age, I had to set a limit starting from 1998 Models, if went down to 1996 then the 300ZX would have been added, then some one might argue what about the RX-7, then I would have to go down to 1995, and then etc. and etc. 1998 is the limit. 3000ways 05-15-2004, 01:07 PM One of the good things about this comparision is that all the cars have their strengths in certain areas and have weakness in others, the car that you feel offers the best combinitation of all the areas is the car you select. 3kgt8 05-15-2004, 04:42 PM stop repeating yourself in every thread. and i thought you had owned a Base model 3000gt as i read in a previous thread. you owned a VR4 also???? flylwsi 05-15-2004, 04:47 PM agreed. the repetition of posts, let alone threads (in style, at the least) is getting old... BP2K2Max 05-15-2004, 07:02 PM i voted for the EVO MR. such a sexy beast. fast, lightweight, and handling to die for. 3000ways 05-15-2004, 08:00 PM stop repeating yourself in every thread. and i thought you had owned a Base model 3000gt as i read in a previous thread. you owned a VR4 also???? There's a point to it and I could care less if you think I repeat myself so STF up. Yeah I owned a 95 3000GT Base and decided to trade it in for a 94 3000GT VR4 is that to hard to understand???? Want my life story, owned a 99 Sentra, hated it, wanted something fast, so I traded in the 99 Sentra, for a 95 3000GT Base with around 55,000 miles. Started getting into to cars and started to fix up the Base 3000GT, there weren't alot of parts for the Base 3000GT and I needed more power, so I found a 94 3000GT VR4 for $16,500 with only around 64,000 miles on it. So I started to fix it up, I got ATR exhaust and down pipe, HKS Intake, HKS BOV, Turbo XS Manual Boost Controller, Denso Spark, custom viper blue paint job, custom interior, Excel Rims. Decided to go out drinking and drove, wrecked the car, got a DUI, and now I drive a 98 Sentra, unitl I save up for an EVO. Happy now. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/421366 3000ways 05-15-2004, 08:01 PM agreed. the repetition of posts, let alone threads (in style, at the least) is getting old... Do I see a full set of Yellow stars under your name? Nope. So shut it. 3kgt8 05-15-2004, 11:33 PM yea i agree and thanks for giving us the chance of hearing such a wonderful life story. freakonaleash1187 05-16-2004, 01:34 AM Do I see a full set of Yellow stars under your name? Nope. So shut it. BURN! sorry, had to say that. i agree with 3000ways, if you are getting tired of reading these threads than don't read them. it is that simple. stang_guy 05-16-2004, 02:14 AM 2004 Mustang SVT Cobra coupe. 35k you have 5k left over so you can run the 11s in the 1/4. or you can get an 03' for @ 30 and you can put 10k worth of performance and really kick ass. I think your on the wrong thread?? Unless the Ford Mustang Cobra suddenly became a Japanese automobile?? Mr Payne 05-16-2004, 04:57 AM Hmm, can't we just have a thread that said "Best vehicle under 40K?"...That way he can consolidate all the flames in one thread. It would be so much more tidy. 3000ways 05-16-2004, 10:24 AM Hmm, can't we just have a thread that said "Best vehicle under 40K?"...That way he can consolidate all the flames in one thread. Don't worry it's coming, like I said there is a point, just waiting for a certain amount of votes. stang_guy 05-16-2004, 11:03 AM yeah i kind of forgot it was the japanese car thing. sry bout that. its still a good deal. MITSU-EVO 05-16-2004, 11:17 AM Mitusbishi EVO MR.... Thepeug 05-16-2004, 11:32 AM This sounds really stupid, but what is an MR? What separates it from other editions of the EVO? I'm familiar with the EVO VIII, but the MR keeps coming up, and I don't even know what it is! BP2K2Max 05-16-2004, 12:04 PM this is from a Road and TRack review of the MR: "The new MR version looks to make the Evo an even more enjoyable ride with the addition of a larger turbocharger for improved low- and mid-range power and an extra gear in the form of a new 6-speed gearbox. The MR also sheds about 300 pounds, thanks to a new aluminum roof and lightweight alloy BBS wheels. Improved handling is achieved with even stickier Yokohama Advan tires, revised suspension and Mitsubishi’s famous active center differential, helping to elevate its skidpad number from 0.88g in stock form to a whopping 0.98g for the MR. And best of all, according to Sam Mitani, the MR is bound for the U.S. “This baby is definitely headed our way,” says the editor of SPEED. Look for the MR to sell for around an amazingly low $33,000." http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/3292004171716.jpghttp://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/0325200420224107.jpg Thepeug 05-16-2004, 01:12 PM Cool, thanks for the info. That is one sweet-looking car. I might even have to change my original answer... Hotshot8792 05-16-2004, 01:22 PM i'd go for the 99 VR-4, only 45 of them were sold in the U.S. and such a rare car, its a collectors item aznxthuggie 05-16-2004, 02:19 PM i would go for the g35, i think it has the best mix of looks and potential next to the supra, 350, vr4, and hey in japan its the Nissan Skyline 350GT, i just like the way it looks, and im sure it can be alot faster than it is stock 3kgt8 05-17-2004, 02:31 AM wow another ugly ass looking evo! youngvr4 05-17-2004, 03:39 AM lol they don't look THAT bad 3000ways 05-17-2004, 11:26 AM wow another ugly ass looking evo! Styling is in the eye of the beholder, while I believe the EVO could use a make over it's not that bad, and apparently 6500 people who snatched up already don't believe they were that ugly. freakonaleash1187 05-17-2004, 11:34 AM evo's are okay looking..........for a four-door. i would take one.............then sell it and get a different car. Thepeug 05-18-2004, 02:20 AM I'm not crazy about a normal Evo VIII's appearance, and the stock interior looks incredibly cheap, but for some reason that Evo looks really nice. aznxthuggie 05-18-2004, 03:11 AM http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/3292004171716.jpghttp://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/0325200420224107.jpg dam, never thought an evo looked so good BP2K2Max 05-18-2004, 10:54 AM i think it's cuz they reduced the gaudiness of the rear spoiler. i'm kinda partial to it's black spoiler, gunmetal rims and black hoodscoop along with the dark tinted windows and bright red paint. i guess you either love it or hate it, no middle ground. 3000ways 05-18-2004, 12:04 PM i think it's cuz they reduced the gaudiness of the rear spoiler. i'm kinda partial to it's black spoiler, gunmetal rims and black hoodscoop along with the dark tinted windows and bright red paint. i guess you either love it or hate it, no middle ground. Yeah and it also has smoked headlamps, that are becoming popular with EVO owners right now. It does look better than the regular EVO, I wonder if it's dropped an inch or two? Polygon 05-18-2004, 04:59 PM i'd go for the 99 VR-4, only 45 of them were sold in the U.S. and such a rare car, its a collectors item What? You have any production documentation to back that up? MR2Driver 05-18-2004, 05:00 PM Nothing on that list can compete stock for stock with the EVO MR on a road course. youngvr4 05-18-2004, 05:11 PM nothing! youngvr4 05-18-2004, 05:28 PM What? Stephanie Molaskey Case Manager, Vehicle Assistance Polygon 05-18-2004, 06:00 PM Wow! That is a pretty low production number. In some states you can get around having to do emissions if you have a pretty low production number, and 45 certainly qualifies. youngvr4 05-18-2004, 06:37 PM really? hmm i wonder what the number is? i bet lots of supra's can get away with it 3000ways 05-18-2004, 07:13 PM nothing! Yeah nothing as far as I can see on the LIST can hang with the EVO MR on a road course, name a car please. Not saying the EVO is the best car in comparison, cuz the comparison asks for many things, but stock for stock nothing on the list should be able to hang with it's all around performance, although the Supra would be very close, well maybe not that close, because the EVO MR out accelerates and out brakes it, and with slalom speeds of 70mph+ and skidpad numbers of .98g, I'd say the EVO MR would out handle the Supra too. The EVO MR weighs well over 400Lbs less too. Still the Supra looks nice, but I don't think the Supra is better performance car stock for stock than the base EVO, let alone the EVO MR. youngvr4 05-21-2004, 01:18 AM i was agreeing to the statement not disagreeing. he siad nothing and i was backing him up buy saying nothing again. i'm a evo-8 fan, i love those cars. mitsubishi baby! 3kgt8 05-21-2004, 06:59 PM yeah lets all get evos!!! 3000ways 05-21-2004, 08:25 PM yeah lets all get evos!!! Oh once again STF up, nobody ever said everybody should get an EVO, I was just stating my opinion that I think it's the best all around performance car on the list. I am alowed to have an opinion aren't I, so stop crying an b*tching!!! ghetto7o2azn 05-23-2004, 05:37 PM hmm im just wondering why an rx7 isnt on there... id take an rx7 tt over the rx8 any day BP2K2Max 05-23-2004, 08:20 PM hmm im just wondering why an rx7 isnt on there... id take an rx7 tt over the rx8 any day that's been explained already. he cut it off at a 1998 or later production date, if he lets one slide he'll have to let others. i'd take a TT RX myself, but not over the EVO MR.
