78 F250FreddieJB86 05-12-2004, 04:14 AM Ok I'm getting a 78 F250 in trade for my 85 F150 and a couple of old computers. Ok now for the question, I was told that the engine in the 78 is a 351/M 400. What does that mean? My 85 has a little 302 in it and the truck is beat to hell. that's why I'm trading it. Plus I know that fixing an older truck like the 78 will be worth more in the long run. I'm not the best when it comes to mechanical work, I can do a little bit, like a basic tune up, or even put a new carb. on. But anything else I have to get help. Although I can do body work, like bondo, and painting, etc... Any help would be appreciated. Freddie 97chevyman 05-13-2004, 10:13 PM well you have the modified motor series, the 351 or the 400. I am not a big fan of the motors, but they got the job done. The best thing you can do for these motors would be put a cam and timing set in them. Get a nice comp 4x4 cam and a cloyes timing set for it. The stock timing was retarded 7 degrees due to emissions requirements, the new timing set is advances for best performance and the cam will make a night and day different. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
