92 gt AC and such92blackgt 05-11-2004, 04:04 PM yo! im new my name is jordan and im getting a my sisters old car (92 celica gt) i dont know much about these cars and cars in general but im ready to learn. anyway, this car's ac doesnt work, thats all i know i was just wondering if any one elts has had this problem and has any tips on how to fix it with out going to some guy who will charge me a bunch of money. another problem is the doors.... the drivers side door doesnt open from the outside, just the inside, i opend up the door pannel and found a little plastic piece, looks like it broke, dunno shit about how to fix this. is this a problem with most 92's or just mine?? any other celica advise in any way would be helpfull thanks. jordan 91celicaFB 05-13-2004, 12:27 PM hey, on a general rule when your ac isnt working... This is what i would do.... Make sure your ac clutch is working,, you can do this by turning switch on to like medium fan. Turn the AC switch on and off. You should hear your compressor come on. You can kind of see this on your tach, as your engine speed falls up and down. If its working when you click on and off. then your compressor is fine and do the following.... First go to autozone or your prefferd parts store and buy about 2-3, at the most, R-134a recharge cans, the AC Dryer/condensor ( i think its called) ($30-$40) the recharge line, (if you dont have one) and a R-134a Retro-fit kit. Heres what your recipt should look like: -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 cans of refrigerant recharge r134a- $5 each Will be used in your car. Celica AC dryer/condensor- $30-$40 Will be installed in your car Recharge line- $20-30 You can use this over for any car. Retro fit kit- $10 Will be installed. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, dont let all of this scare you. First off, locate the dryer or condensor. Its a cylindrical shaped, can looking thing, most of them are black. Its located in front of the radiator, on the right side. It has 2 lines an a couple of bolts holding it. My car had been in a wreck when i did this so figure your way around. Just get the thing off somhow, remember 2 lines and some bolts. Ok, now install the new one. Advanced Auto parts have shiny silver ones that look pretty cool but nothing special. No not chrome. lol Anyways, install the new one. Now, when you undid this, all your remaining refrigerant should have drained out. Now, get the retrofit adapters and locate your high and low pressure lines. One it near the condensor thing your just replaced and ones near the belts, or shock/strut head on your left side, (looking into the engine). This is the one you will be charging through. Now intall those adapters on these 2 lines, you will not need the one near the condensor. But you will use the one on the left in your engine compartment. (close to your coolant overflow tank.) Turn your car on, have your AC on HIGH, on COLDEST and.... Attach your new line that you bought, to the newly fitted adaptor, and attach a refrigerant can to the other end of the line. Wait untill the can emtys out... Its cool cuz it gets realllllyy cold. Do this with about 3 cans, DO NOT OVERFILL, it will royally screw up your compressor. Anyways, this should solve your problem. If you buy the 5 dollar refrigerant, it will prolly have a leak stop addative that will stop little leaks. Now you can go around with soapy water, with your car and AC on, spraying fittings and lines to make sure there are no leaks. If it goes hot in a while, depending how long it took is how big the leak you got. It this is the case, try to find it asap. If not then your going to have to overpay some guy with a real cool machine that puts UV dye into your system and he looks around for the leak using his UV lights and wierd googles. 91celicaFB 05-13-2004, 12:31 PM Hey, srry, about the door, go and buy that piece thats broken. Most part stores have this aisle that has these neat, hard to find pieces, they're labled as, "HELP". Just replace that and put the door back together as best as you can and it should fix it. Remember, if somthings broke, then fix it. thats what i would do. hope these replies help. write back and mention any progession... or hopefully not, but the inevidable,,,, degression. lol cya 92blackgt 05-13-2004, 06:26 PM thanks a lot...ill get to the ac(most important) first Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
