Unhappy Strange Brakes Light Behavior

Hi:

I have a 99 Isuzu Rodeo LSE. About 4 months ago, a fellow driver next to me pointed out that my driver-side brake light is not working when I stepped on the brakes. So I changed the bulb the next day. However, within a couple days, the driver-side brake light would go out again. After some investigation, I noticed that this problem only happened during the night time when the rest of my lights are turned on. When I turn the light on and decide to step on my brakes, the lights on the rear driver side would go off. Release the brakes, and the lights come back on. Passenger side works just fine. Eventually, the brake light would not even work during the day when the rest of my lights aren't on. I've replaced this dual-filaments bulb 5 times already, and everytime the brake light would work for about a couple of days, then it goes through the symptoms above (2 days fully functional, one week only during day time, then all gone). So I'm sure it is not the bulb. Where else should I be looking? Thanks.

Re: Strange Brakes Light Behavior

Make sure you are using the right bulb. Read your manual for the part number.

It you have a towing hitch, unplug the towing wiring harness.

Thanks, Ryan:

However, my first bulb change was with a certified Isuzu bulb (cost me $6.50 for just one bulb!). It blew out within a month. After problems persisted, I went with generic Sylvania brand from Pep Boys. They assured me that it was the same type. BTW, I don't have a trailer hitch. Could this be something with a fuse or wiring? How do I get to the fuse box to check it out? Thanks.

Tony.
