Gonna test drive some 240's - anything to look out for?freelunch 04-30-2004, 12:49 AM Well, I'm heading to the automall on the weekend to look for a new car. I'll probably test drive a used 240sx if they have 'em in stock, so is there anything I should concentrate on when considering these cars? Towlie 04-30-2004, 02:19 AM Well, I'm heading to the automall on the weekend to look for a new car. I'll probably test drive a used 240sx if they have 'em in stock, so is there anything I should concentrate on when considering these cars? its just like any other old car its gonna have problems check for holes in exhaust, fluid leaks, brakes, rotors, check the pedals to see if they have been replaced or if they are seriously worn and check the CVs by making sure u completely turn the steering wheel each way and accelerating i dont know of any common 240sx problems off hand sleeper240 04-30-2004, 02:36 AM None except that slight need to hit the gas on the open road....:ylsuper: Zanark 04-30-2004, 07:46 AM first of all look underneith the car for some rust and make sure the front bumper absorber is intact they tend to crack. Also its a rear wheel drive car so if you can test the transmission mounts, how? easy if its an auto lol put in the break rev that bitch up and let go, if it doesnt kick up your good, and with a Stick just take it to a cruising speed around 35mph or so and smash the gas and feel for a kick up. Also dont be fooled by the engine sound of the 240 it is VERY loud so there for youll think the engines in good working order. Make sure to see how it revs up and also check the brakes. Nissans have a bad tendancy to warp abit early. ALso if the steering feels abit hard thats normal since its power asisted. Um *thinks* well besides the normal crap thats about it man. pantlegz 04-30-2004, 02:44 PM and check the CVs by making sure u completely turn the steering wheel each way and accelerating I didn't think RWD cars had CV joints... might be wrong but I doubt it. yea check the brakes, and lookout for rust (it's evil) I'm in the middle of replacing a bunch of my body cuz rust. The dealership put touchup paint over it, took it to the carwash 2 days after I bought it and all the shit came off  but oh well thats what you get for 2500. if it's really cheap expect something(s) to be wrong KenOhki2112 04-30-2004, 04:52 PM Check the clutch, give it some hard shifts and see how well it grabs, most s13's being sold are around the time when the clutch starts to go. If it's slipping a lot, factor that into the price before buying, if it's still cheap just get it fixed. Also the tranny on the MT's spesificly the input bearing, check for a really grindy/whinny noise coming from the transmission (most noticable when coasting). If it's a problem it will be VERY loud so you can't miss it. saikou240 04-30-2004, 07:56 PM research about used cars in general as much as possible...i remember doin that when i was buyin a car. for the 240sx s13 SE or LE specifically, check for rust under the spoiler. look inside the engine: how clean and if any oil had leaked out, check all the fluids, check the inside and all the switches (do all the lights come on), maybe go on a rainy day to check for leaks, check AC and heater once a visual inspection is done, only then start the car. listen first for a little while (let the car warm up). is anything rattling, is the exhaust some weird color, do the idles stay around 800 rpm constantly, any fluids leaking then drive the car and see how it feels. don't go for the 1st 240 that pops up and take your time vsiev 04-30-2004, 10:19 PM take it to a mechanic and let them look at it.
