Subaru Impreza 1995 Oil Leak ProblemImpreza95 04-29-2004, 03:19 PM I have a subaru impreza 1995 sedan and I have a lot of mileage in it already, about 160,000 (holy s**t). Well a few months ago it started leaking oil. The oil leak occurs only when it is running like when you are driving to point A to point B, well when this occurs the leak drips on the exhaust pipes causing oil fumes to get sucked into the interior and oil fumes to come out from the bottom of the car when waiting at a red light or when the car is not moving. What do you guys think my problem is OIL PAN or MAIN SEAL or HEAD GASKET? Help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. freakray 04-29-2004, 04:07 PM Check the front seal at the oil pump, I have heard of them leaking over time, especially when the engine is warmed up. Impreza95 04-29-2004, 04:19 PM OK ill check the front seal. But if it's not the front seal, then what else is causing the problem and what can I do to stop it? Thanks again in advance. LjasonL 04-29-2004, 05:28 PM Can you drive it around for a little bit then crawl under and look where it's coming from? Impreza95 04-29-2004, 09:49 PM i cant really trace where its coming from.....ill try again tomorrow if anything and see if i can find where the leak is coming from...but yeah i think its the front seal at the oil pump...thanks again for the help...other ideas about what is causing the problem would be greatly appreciated! freakray 04-30-2004, 12:06 AM Well, you could always get under the engine with a rag and wipe off all the excess oil on the outside of the engine. Also, at a time when you're actually experiencing the oil dripping onto the hot exhaust, that's when you need to stop the car and check out where the oil dropping onto the exhaust. Impreza95 04-30-2004, 07:08 AM Yeah you're right freakray but the only problem is the exhaust is hot and the only way i can put the car up is to use the ramp and the ramp doesn't give me that much room to move around freely but i'll give your suggestion a try freakray. Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciated all the help. If I still don't figure it out ill keep posting..hehe....take care guys. Impreza95 05-05-2004, 03:38 PM Well like my last post I have a SUBARU IMPREZA 2 DR that have a really big oil leak problem which I haven't fixed yet. I wanted to know how much is it to to get the rear main seal fixed because I think that is where the leak is coming from. Below is a description of what occurs when the oil leaks. The oil leak occurs only when it is running like when you are driving to point A to point B, well when this occurs the leak drips on the exhaust pipes causing oil fumes to get sucked into the interior and oil fumes to come out from the bottom of the car when waiting at a red light or when the car is not moving. Help would be greatly APPRECIATED. Thanks in advance. freakray 05-05-2004, 03:42 PM Cost me about $350 to get my oil seal replaced on my '98 RS when it was leaking at the oil pump which is significantly easier to access. Figure on a little more than that I think. dlinvill 05-09-2004, 01:06 AM My friends mustang had a similar problem with burnt oil fumes in the interior. He did the work himself but it took several replaced gaskets before he got all the leaks. It won't be cheap, sorry. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
