2000 Explorer Recalls

Just had my 2000 Explorer Serviced and they performed 3 recall repairs (03S03. 03S04, and 00M12).

S03 & S04 I knew about (Speed Cable & Seat Bolt - I had recall notices from Ford).

The 00M12 I didn't know about and can't find anywhere and it was the only real problem that I can tell. My Explorer would make a rattling noise that was worst when it was cold and at start up. Anyway the invoice says "installed new timing chain tensioner and intake gasket". The rattle is gone.

Like I said, I can't find the 00M12 recall anywhere. I've looked here http://www.genuineflmservice.com/default.asp?page=J (Ford's site) and found the S03 & S04.

Also I looked here http://edmunds.nytimes.com/maintenan....step2.8.Ford* (New York Times) and got a bigger list, but no M12.

So.... next time you take your Explorer in, ask.

Re: 2000 Explorer Recalls

Wow, that's interesting.
Can you describe the rattling a little more?
Don't you think they probably replaced the front cover gasket, rather than the intake, being the timing chain is behind the front cover?
Not sure if the intake had to be removed.
Thanks for the heads up.

Don't know enough about cars to say, but the invoice says intake gasket. I finally found this site http://www.alldata.com/TSB/20/992015DC.html that lists the M12 under General Recalls.

Sound - a rattling sound, lose metal vibrating. When I picked the car up, we were having a dust storm with 40mph winds. didn't talk to them much about details.

What is a service bulletin. When u take a car to the dealership do they do the service bulletin repairs gratis, I see one that deals with the cold idle problems and my 2001 explorer sport 2wd is experiencing it now big time.
