Oil pressure sending unit broken? 01 Aurora

My oil pressure guage reads 130 psi at all times. I am confident that this is not truly the case and have assumed that it is the pressure sensor. Does anyone know where on the engine to locate that part?

Thanks,
Lou

Thought after a couple of months I would try moving this one back to the front. Does anyone know where that gizmo is? Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. And I agree with you - I believe also that it is a sensor or connector issue. We need to hear from someone who has a service manual for the 2001 Aurora that could look up where the sensor/connector is. I intend to order the service manual soon, but it would be nice to have the info now so that it could be addressed.

Do you both have 4.0s? I could check my 95 service manuals if that is the case since help doesn't seem to be forthcoming. I doubt that would move around much year to year.

on the 4.0 it is behind the oil pan, next to the filter.

I have the 3.5. But I'll take a look around there anyway. Thanks,Lou

Well I climbed under the car and took a look today. Found a wire plugging into something on the bottom of the oil pan more or less in the middle. I said aha! this is it. I unplugged it then checked the oil pressure reading with the engine on. Still bounced back and forth between 130 and 131 (which I assume is the equivalent of "pegged" on a normal analog gauge). Kind of makes me think that that isn't it, since I would expect it to go to zero unplugged, but I don't know. Does anyone know for sure what the oil pressure reading should say when you unplug the sensor?

I have the same problem with oil pressure, but mine reads "low oil pressure" though everything seems to be fine. I have replaced oil pressure sensor, but it did not help. Suggestions?

the sensoe you took out is the oil level sensor

Hi Drama. Just had my sensor replaced and now the low oil pressure light goes on. Never happened before. Seems as though 130 - 131 lbs. is correct being that everyone else is reporting the same. The mechanic says it is ok. Mine only goes on for a minute or 2 after I start the engine cold. What bothers me is that it never happened before. I am the original owner of the 2001. I am going to bring it back to him.
The reason for the replacement was there was a slight oil leak. I will keep you posted.

130 PSI would blow every oil seal out of the engine instantly. Reliable pressure gauge sets are fairly cheap at most tool stores and thread right into the block. Even if your sending unit is good, the dash gauge itself may be wrong. Factory units are notorious for being way off.

Well it is a year later and now the car is leaking oil. I put it up on stands and take a look. I see oil leaking from around a sensor of some sort. I unplug the wire and start the car. Guess what, it is the oil pressure sending unit (warning message of low oil pressure is on). It plugs into the back of the engine block and needs to be accessed from below the car. It is slightly to the passenger side of midline just in front of what would be the front axel if it didn't have independent wheels. If you start where the oil filter screws into the oil pan and draw a line backwards around the backside of the engine and up about 10 inches it will be there. Now I will see about replacing it. It looks like a tough angle to get a wrench on so I don't know how easy it is going to be.

It's fixed! I was able to get a crescent wrench on the sending unit and remove the old. Put the new one in and it is now reading appropriate oil pressures and is not leaking oil. It was about a 30 minute job and cost $50.00. I bought the part from Crown Cadillac http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213768 at about 20% off list. I have bought several parts from them at a considerable savings versus my local dealer and they were very easy to work with. The best part about them is their website which is very easy to find parts when you don't know exactly what the name of the part is. They have diagrams online as well which is very helpful.

I just checked out the Crown Cadillac web-site, and it blew my mind. I have been to alot of sites, sellling parts for Rora, this one beats them all in my book. Its like GM parts direct on steroids. Thanks Apostolakis!!!!
