Unhappy `99 keyless entry problem

i own a beautiful `99 toyota camry ce, but she has one problem. her alarm system likes to go off randomly. i'll have her parked in my driveway, with it activated and it will just go off sometimes. i don't think its a sensivity problem, because it happened at church also. i usually just unlock, then relock the doors. i could just lock my door, without using keyless, but i wanted to know if anyone has ran into the same problem and had some sort of a fix. -michael

You probably have an open circuit or short somewhere. Do lights flash when horn sounds or is it horns only? Tracing wires to solve that problem could take quite awhile and some door panels may have to come off. Are you sure your not accidentally hitting the panic button on the fob when it's in a pocket full of change or something similar?

Re: `99 keyless entry problem

My 1998 Camry LE and my parents 1998 Camry LE have the same problem. It usually occurs immediately after parking it. I have concluded that the interior air heats up (which happens pretty quickly here in Texas) and expands, putting pressure on the windows, thus causing the alarm to activate. I have just learned to live with it. My parents and I both have the Toyota Securikey+ alarm system (which I believe is made by Audiovox). However, other than this pretty frequent nuisance, the alarm system works pretty well.

It's gotta be a pin switch at fault. Most Japanese cars have serious problems with these switches. All cars have them in the doors and some have them for the hood and trunk/hatch. Yes, extreme heat/cold can cause these switches to malfunction. Usually, these fail because of them getting dirt/water and ruing the contacts.

for someone who hasn't had the best teacher when it comes to cars, and needs a free weekend, to buy the hanes manual, i believe it is. what is a pin switch, and where can i locate one? if its vehicle specific, just a brief description will do, to point me in the right direction. also, my camry just crossed 49,000, she's still a baby. i was just wondering, if theres any preventitive mainanance (sorry about the spelling) i should be doing to keep my baby running strong. besides oil (which we've been really good about) and tires, i don't believe anythings been done to the car. thank you all very much for your continued assistance.

Re: `99 keyless entry problem

The pin switches are the ones that are in the door openings that control the dome light.
