Re: wiring neons

'K, do it right, now...
Cut the plug off the power leads (mind the polarity) to the lights and install them where you want them.
Then run a (proper gauge) wire to a switch mounted where you like it and run another wire to a FUSE HOLDER WITH A 5 or so AMP FUSE IN IT. The plug you cut off may have the correct fuse in it already-use that one. (I cannot emphasize the fuse enough-too many impatient people burn down their cars 'cause they don't bother with fuses and then the dashboard melts into their laps...car fires really suck!).
Run the wire from that fuse holder to a "ign/acc" terminal on your fuse block (these are sometimes unfused-that's why you add the inline one). This terminal is hot when the key is in the "run" or "acc" position.
Run another wire from the ground lead on your lights to any good metal chassis ground, such as where an existing thing is bolted/screwed to the body.
Trim screws work well-but only if they're not in a place where the wire will get chafed by doors, feet, etc.
Use a fuse-be safe.
