What kind of work is needed to replace the old freon with new freon in my 1988 Toyota Camry?

Does anything else need to be changed except for the freon?

Are you sure you need to replace the Freon? Normally, it does not need to be replaced.

In addition to the Freon, if you empty the system, you need air conditioning lubricant. If you are low, just add Freon.

My car leaks Freon.
Once the leak is fixed. I will need to add Freon.

The old Freon is more expensive.
Perhaps it is cheaper to replace the old freon with the new and cheaper freon?

There is a R12 (Freon) substitute available. Use that. You can't use the new refrigerant without changing some parts in the system. You also can't buy R12 at the parts store anymore. You have to have a special license to use it.

Depending on where you live, u can use some stuff called Freeze12. I am running my Camry & other car on it. My mechanic is running his R12 system on it. Works good, has the same characteristics as R12

Ditto on the freeze 12. I have it in my camry and tercel and they both work fine. You should have the dryer replaced if you have to break the system open though.

Yes, Freeze 12 is what I was referring to.
