So maybe the version of the Evo we get will be called the OZ Racing. But Motor Trend also said that there would be a sport edition of the regular 130hp Lancer with a slightly stiffer suspension and OZ wheels. But the wheels were only going to be 15s or something, so that's not it in the linked pic. The Evo has 17s like in the pic.

Hmmm thats what it looks like, the U.S will probably getting the O.Z Racing version, the lower grade of the Evo VII. Its a pity if you guys do, as you'll never get to experience what these cars can really do.
What I dont get is, Why do you need to test them so much!!!??? Just import the car and shut up. How many accidents do American drivers have? and what they think that all the crashes will suddenly happen in the Evo VII? geeeess
According to the 6/10/01 sunday washington post, the test car they drove was 120hp 2.0 liter I4. 120hp at 5500rpm, and 130lb-ft at 4250rpm. The chassis is the same as the evo vii, but I guess that's about it...
you need to modify it to even consider it worth something. Many have done this here in Australia, but then again, it still doesnt look so crash hot and its performance is only increased by a measly few kW/hp.
so why is it they let the WRX in and set aside the EVO? maybe the WRX is cheaper then the Evo, or that USA doesnt have a well enough established RALLIART.

Maybe you could write a letter to this American government and tell them to shut the fuck up and import the damn cars so that we all can enjoy those cars which speak so highly of.
The WRX doesn't really have any competition right now. The acceleration to 60mph is around a full second faster(Car and Driver got a 5.8 run), if not more than the Eclipse(V6 3rd gen), Celica, Integra, and Prelude. I think the next fastest might be the Eclipse, or the Prelude.
That's why the Evo would be so cool to have here, even if it was detuned a bit. Nothing else can give the Impreza a run for it's money. The 276hp Evo VII would smoke it like barbequed ribs(Mitsubishi estimates a conservative 5 seconds from 0-60). STi would have to intro it's version of the WRX just to keep up.
In Britain, the stripper version of the Evo undercuts the price of the WRX just a tad. If the Evo came here, it would probably end up costing more, because we'd probably just get one trim level.
