:banghead: My 1989 escort idles at around 4-5000 at times even when I shut it off and restart, it idles down at times but usually not...please advise me if anyone has same problem or can help....thanks

I have not had this problem but you may have to replace your idle control sensor. Look it up in a Haynes manual or ask a mechanic where it might be, I am not sure. Something is telling the computer to increase the fuel.

make sure your throttle line isn't stuck, holding ur butterfly open.

I have a 1990 1.9 CFI automatic with same problem. I replaced throttle position sensor, improved problem for about a week. Went to junk yard and got another throttle position solenoid, no improvement. Will try engine error codes tomorrow. Will let you know results.

95% fixed. KOEO produced code 73 (ins. TP change) and running test produced 99 and 23 (both related to throttle position). Wiring diagram shows relationship with MAP. Rereplaced TP sensor, replaced MAP, reset codes... mostly fixed. Need to replace dryrotted vacuum lines for remaining 5%. Side note, check engine light never lit to show faults in system. Light works at initial key-on self test, though.
