Average Life Span of a 1999 Silverado

I was wondering how long a 1999 Silverado would last with the original motor and transmission. I have 1989 Silverado and that I bought about 7 months ago it has a engine and transmission that is about 20k old and it runs fine. I am looking into upgrading to a 1999 Silverado 1500 Z71, and I was wondering if I bought one with from 90k miles to 110k miles how long before I would start to see mechanical troubles.

My 99's still truckin' along. Havent touched the trans. And just the typical engine tune up. I've got 63,000 miles. I should also mention its been lowered since around 8 or 9,000 miles.

Man, that really depends on how the previous owner drove it & how he maintained it. If he didn't maintain it very well that could be the reason he's selling it. I'd take it to a certified mechanic and have him look at it. It could save you alot of $$$ & headaches.

mine has 138,000 to this point and so far it has the typical gremlins (gas gauge, steering shaft, ...) but no engine or tranny probs

As long as its been well maintained then you should be get alot of miles still yet from it. And even if it has some mechanical problems, if its got a good body and stuff and hte price wasn't too high, then it would be worth it anywyas

My '99 just rolled over 170,000 miles. This truck has mostly in-town mileage with a decent amount pulling a car trailer. No engine or tranny problems. Typical steering shaft, steering sector and 3rd door wind noise however.

My 99 had 342,000mi on it when I sold it and no major driveline problems. All hiway miles (Usually at 70mph-80mph), 3000mph between oil changes and normal intervals for everything else. I put in a KN filter right from day one and truly believe that helps. I did go through alot of brakes and rebuilt the rearend twice (pinion bearings). I now have a 2002 with 146000 on it and it's still running strong. A buddy of mine put over 600,000 on a 84 and it was all city miles.

P.S. Both mine were 2wd. I'm not sure how the transfer cases are on the 4wd though.
