The plug Should have a washer, the washer could be bad. If you can tighten it, than the threads are good.

If you're sure it's the drain plug and not just dripping off the drain plug from somewhere else you might have to pull the plug and apply some sort of sealant if just tightening doesn't work (RTV, Loc-tite, plumber's paste?). Just a suggestion...

HI LOOK ON THE OIL PAN IN THE BACK MAKE SURE THAT YOUR LEAK ISN'T COMEING FROM THE REAR CRANKSHAFT SEAL IF IT LEAKS IT WILL RUN DOWN THE BACK OF PAN TO THE DRAIN PLUG & IT WILL APPEAR THAT THE DRAIN PLUG IS LEAKING, CHECK THE BACK OF OIL PAN

My 97 jgc has an oil leal also but it is coming from the intake gasket and running down the back of the engine. I already fixed a leak at the distributer oring. You might look there if you have'nt already.

Could be coming from anywhere, moving down the engine to the lowest point then dripping. Try cleaning the engine then you can get a better look at where its coming from. I had a leak at the oil filter housing but I though it was a bad oil pan seal. :2cents:

I had the same on a Grand Cherokee 93. 6L 4000cc. but was not coming from the oil drain plug, it was coming from the crankshaft seal, in between the engine and the gear.
Clean it carefully (they sell cheap products to clean) and try to look exactly where is it coming from , At the Hanes manual there is a way to replace it without taking the engine out, but make sure if the leak is coming from crankshaft seal.

I agree, clean the area and watch to make sure you know exactly where the leak is coming from, then go from there.
