2000 Passat GLX 4 motion

When I brake hard or quickly coming to stop the car will stop but a second later the car will bang like someone has run into the back of you.

If it doesn't bang... the other option is it will hesitate before moving like you were dumping the clutch and doing a holeshot.

Any related problems like this?
