Rear lift gate

Okay I have 96 blazer and I am having problems with the lift gate. Really the rear window the button to open from the inside dosent work and it won't open with the key. I have chased all the wiring down as much as possible with no problems found. Checked all of the fuses and I am at the point where I think I should just replace the whole mechanism. Before I do that I was hoping for some input from you guys. Has someone had a similar problem if so..HELP!!!!!

Re: Rear lift gate

This is 'way newer than any of my vehicles, but if both switches aren't working and you are sure there is power, the most likely candidate is the "interlock" (I think). It's the switch that tells the system the tailgate isn't really closed and so it won't power the motor. It is also possible the wires to the motor have come loose (this isn't likely). On many tailgates, you can remove the inside access panel with the gate closed and check for power, etc. If there is power and the motor is hooked up, you can take the two wires (a two-wire plug) off the interlock and jumper the wires together. If it is a bad interlock, you can now operate the window in any position which will enable you to break it into 9,437 pieces if you forget and operate it at the wrong time. So beware.

Of course your lift motor may have died. Not cheap, but not a bank-breaker if you replace it yourself. Good luck. CB
