oil in coolant

Well not only do I have a oil leak but im finding it in my coolant resevior. Any ideas, is my van history? Its not burning any smoke and I still have power..No overheating just the oil leak around my exhaust manifold about a quart a week...Should I get ready for a major problem or is there anyone out there knows whats going on?

Thanks

Re: oil in coolant

Oil in the coolant isn't too bad in itself but it can be sign of a larger problems to come. I think that you should get this looked at right away because the next thing could be water in the oil and that means engine job $$$$$. If you can get it fixed before that happens you can head for that big bill. But don't take your time about do it as soon as possible. About a quart a week is no little leak, thats major, it has to be somking from under the hood when you are driving. Ride On, digimon

Oil in coolant is indicative of an intake manifold or head gasket. Coolant runs at less than 15 psi and oil psi runs 20 to 40 pounds, so a weak spot in either of these gaskets will cause oil to go to the coolant.

A total failure of these gaskets would dump coolant to the crankcase because of volume.
