88 t-bird vs. 95 neon

My boy at work has a 88 t-bird with a 5.0. He kinda raised his eyebrows at me when I told him that my neon could probably give him a run for his money. I didn't say that I could beat him but could give him a challange. He said there's only one way to find out. I want to know what you all think before I try it. 110 more ft.lbs torque isn't to be ignored, but he is alot heavier. Both cars are stock by the way.

Yeah, I was thinking that that would be the answer. Maybe I'll just let him forget that I ever said anything about it........

Re: 88 t-bird vs. 95 neon

Nope. SOHC. I wish it was DOHC. I'm thinking of getting the magnum parts put in it after I get my intake, tb and muffler. wich hopefully will be this weekend......... Junkyard time!!! Dodge caravan inake to make a poor mans cai (I'll just have to think of a way to put a k&n cone filter on it), an sohc automatics tb since they are a little bigger than the mtx(what I have) and a muffler off a dohc(it's low flow and stock and only 30 bucks at a yard!!) All that should cost me about 100 bucks. Not bad for 15 or so more horses...........

If your Neon is an automatic you probably will lose.. On the otherhand, if you have a 5-speed Neon you will rip a stock 1988 5.0 T-bird to shreads.. The 1988 Tbird 5.0 is rated 0-60 in about 9.5 seconds ( or about as fast as a 1988 Ford Taurus 3.8). The T-Bird Turbo Coupe would take a stock Neon 5-speed but not the 5.0 versions. If you know how to get the most out of your SOHC engine you will definitely beat a stock 5.0 (302) 1988 T Bird..

Re: 88 t-bird vs. 95 neon

It's mtx. I'm learning how to work it more and more every day. I got the shifts down, now all I have to work on is my launch. I want to put a tack in it, but don't know if I want to mount one on my dash or get a new cluster.

Re: 88 t-bird vs. 95 neon

Would an auto Z26 Beretta be considerably faster than an Auto Neon? Beretta has a 3.1 liter V6 with 155 HP and 185 TQ. That beats the shit out of an auto 98 Mustang Im guessing. Same specs as one and about .7 less liters.

Is this a joke, what is an 88T-bird , just run him and you will find out, if you know how to drive.
