I saw motor mounts mentioned in one of the other posts and thought to myself "self, you need to replace the one on the passenger side of YOUR jeep". It's still there, but the rubber is ripped, so much for dragging trees uphill with the ol' jeep. Long story, firewood is a BIG deal up here.

Yep. It's true. It looks like the oil filter adapter needs to come off, elsewise, I can't remove the bolt running through the motor mount. How do you lift or support the motor during the process? And what part of the motor do you lift or support?

Any help would be appreciated, my Chilton manual has nothing to say about motor mounts.

Just finished replacing passenger side motor mount. We bought the Jeep Cherokee last week. Has 183,000 miles. The previous owners beat it well. Drove it until the three bolts holding mounting frame for motor mount to engine block were broken. That tips engine to passenger side and pushes shitt lever so trans won't shift into 5th or reverse. That is why we got it cheap...or at least part of reason. Rust and a starting problem too.

One of the bolts was broken off flush with engine block. There is not much room between engine and frame. I could not get a drill in there.

I bought an air cutting tool with a 3 inch diameter abrasive wheel that is 1/16 inch thick. I used that to cut a slot in the broken bolt and then got a screwdriver bit on a 3/8 socket base and then used an air ratchet.
It caught the slot cut with the air tool and bolt came out. Hardest part was getting the cutter blade in center of bolt. Hard to see.

I don't know if this is a good way to do it, but it worked. I then found the problem mentioned here about oil filter and holder preventing installation of bracket and motor mount separately. After getting bracket bolted to engine block, had to start over.

I guess that it is a good idea to get bad motor mounts replaced before they allow torgue banging until bolts break...or perhaps not putting so much torgue on engine and drive line that bolts break. I don't really know the history of this vehicle.

I would get replacement o-rings for the oil filter adapter while you have it off. When I did mine, I found that a previous owner must have had a leak there and used permatex to stop the leak. I had a bit of trouble removing the adapter and even more trying to find replaceent o-rings.
