rear end thumping and grinding

About a year ago I bought an 88 cherokee. After a few days I noticed some noise from the front and rear end. As the jeep has over 270,000 miles on it, I replaced both wheel bearing assemblies, calipers, pads, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, complete back brake kit, e-brake cable, rear axles and bearings, tires, rims, ujoints, vacuum booster and master cylander. Still a thumping in the rearend I had a mechanic check the rear end after a friend said it sounded like a carrier bearing, he said the rearend was sound no problems, now the sound is getting worse, by the way the sound really seems to be coming from the passenger side rear end.Anybody have any suggestions?!?!?!

I would pull the cover and look at the gears in the rear end.
