Noise from rear axal area 96 JGC LTD

I am getting a loud noise from my rear end which I think is the diff. This only happens when going slow on a slight turning lock. Is there an oil plug that I need to find and top up before I go off to the dealership for a big bill? Repairs on these things in the UK cost us a fortune!
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

I don't know the answer but I have a similar problem, I think. Does the knocking change relative to speed? I don't notice it over 45mph. It began about 60K miles ago, and has increased somewhat in volume since. No mechanic has found the reason.

I have had to change the rear axle bearings in my 97 jgc 2x's when I had the same problem when turning and going slow. The rear end should have a rubber cap plug on the cover plate that just pulls out and thats were you add the fluid.

I have a 97 5.2 liter that has a dana 20 rear end. at 35,000 it started doin that noise. The took it apart and saw it was the spider gear was worn, but that it had done so much dammage to the other gears that I needed an entire rear end. Ha Jeep had to pay for that. I told them not to put another 20 in there put something else, but they only replaced it with another dana 20.

The dana 20 rear end is a bad deal there is a service bulliten for it. telling them to change the syder gear, too bad they don't have a recall for it, they should. I hear a lot of people have this problem.

If you want to see the service bullin go to google and do a search for your vehicle year and service bulliten. There are sever good websites.
